Setup screens for BEFW11S4 version 2/3 firmware 1.44
I figured this might be of some use to some future people, so here goes.. I have hooked
this Wireless Access Point Router up to my lan here, running Linux, and while I basically
am discarding the router portion of the device, for some reason it was $30 cheaper than
the normal Access Point so I got it. Nice device, internal web server is pretty decent
(although sometimes the Java is a bit screwy except in IE.. So if you push buttons and
they don't do anything, either restart your browser or if you can, use IE.. Sadly.)
I like it so far, much better signal that I got with a regular WLAN card with antenna,
has two separate antennas screwed onto Reverse TNC connectors, so can easily
take a larger or directional antenna, and if I ever have the need to, I can use the
device as a router for my DSL. I am getting a Cushcraft S2403b with a RTNC pigtail
to attach to the router, hopefully the signal at the end of the house will be better,
currently it's a little weak.
To simplify things, read the install guide, this will not tell you every detail, but
come back here after you read that and set it up.
To use an internal DHCP server (say your Linux server already has dhcp set up, so you
can get static IPs on specific MAC address, etc) plug your lan cable (going directly
into another computer's NIC or into a switch/hub/router/etc) into the UPLINK port
on the Linksys WAP, not into the WAN port. And disable DHCP inside the router, as
you can see in the images of my setup. Keep in mind that my network here is on the
192.168.0.0/24 subnet, so if you stick to 192.168.1.0/24 or what not, keep it in mind
if you're setting it all up because you might need to alter a few things.
On to the setup images.. Here are the initial Setup screens and
the advanced Setup screens. These are just quick snapshots
of the settings, but I did try to follow the logical order of initial screens, left
to right, and if there was a relevant screen presented when pressing a button, then
it would come after the main image, so it follows along as I feel it should. You'll
see a few places I felt I should blur the actual value out, but they aren't cryptic
areas, simply fill them in as the user manual specifies.
Good luck. You can email me if you have any
questions, but please do try to read the manual first. Or if you have any suggestions
or such for me or other possible readers, by all means let me know.
